Feather Friendly window treatment now up on Lakefield branch of the Selwyn Public Library

Have you noticed anything new at the Lakefield branch of the Selwyn Public Library? Volunteers from Bird Friendly Selwyn's Bird Team installed DIY Feather Friendly product on the front entrance as a demonstration of what bird-friendly windows look like.

Come out and take a close look, see if this is something that you might want to install on your home or cottage windows.

Bird-window collisions are the second-highest cause of bird mortality, specifically in migratory song birds or Passeriformes. A Canadian study published in Avian Conservation and Ecology 2013, by Machtans and colleagues reported that houses contribute most to bird-window collisions-- far out-numbering low to mid-rise buildings and tall buildings. The estimated average annual number of birds killed by homes, based on their study, was 22.4 million +/- 2.4 million.

So as home owners we can be a part of the solution and treat our windows. It's easy and affordable! If the DIY approach seems daunting, there is also a local business that can help you out: Kawartha Bird Control are authorized installers of Feather Friendly products. And please check out Feather Friendly, they are based in Mississauga and their Vice President Paul is extremely friendly and knowledgeable.
